Understanding the Integrations Settings Overview

Summary

The Integrations page is the central admin area where you manage every connection between KnowledgeCity and outside systems. It groups related settings, including Content Providers, Integration Platforms, LTI Tools, API Tokens, Web Hooks, and Logs, so you can add, enable, deactivate, and remove integrations from one place. This article explains what each grouping is for and how to work with it.

Introduction

KnowledgeCity connects to many external systems so that users, courses, credentials, and reporting can flow automatically between platforms. The Integrations page brings all of those connections together in a single admin hub, giving you a clear view of what is set up, what is active, and where to make changes.

This page is used by Super Admins and administrators responsible for connecting KnowledgeCity to third-party tools. It solves the problem of scattered configuration by grouping every integration type in one place, so you do not have to hunt through separate screens to add a content source, register an external tool, issue API credentials, or check that a connection is working.

Key Concepts

  • Content Providers: connections to external catalogs and course sources whose content can be surfaced inside KnowledgeCity.
  • Integration Platforms: connections to broader external systems (for example HR systems and other learning platforms) that exchange users, enrollments, and results with KnowledgeCity.
  • LTI Tools: registered Learning Tools Interoperability connections, each identified by a platform and a client ID, that let KnowledgeCity and external platforms launch into one another.
  • API Tokens: OAuth credentials (a client ID and client secret) that let external applications and custom integrations access your data through the KnowledgeCity API.
  • Web Hooks: outbound notifications that let KnowledgeCity signal external systems when relevant events occur.
  • Logs: a record of integration activity you can review to confirm what happened and troubleshoot unexpected behavior.
  • Integration status: each integration reflects whether it is configured and active, so you can enable, deactivate, or remove it as needed.

Steps to Follow

Opening the Integrations page

Sign in as a Super Admin, open the Settings menu in the top panel of the LMS interface, and select Integrations. This opens the Integrations detail page, where the different integration groupings are organized into their own sections.

Choosing an integration grouping

On the Integrations page, choose the section that matches what you want to manage: Content Providers, Integration Platforms, LTI Tools, API Tokens, Web Hooks, or Logs. Each grouping keeps its own settings and its own list of configured items so you can focus on one integration type at a time.

Adding and enabling an integration

Within a grouping, add the integration you need and provide its connection details, then save. Once configured, an integration can be enabled so it becomes active and begins exchanging data with the external system. Confirm credentials and any required identifiers (such as a platform or client ID) with the integrating party before you rely on the connection.

Working with API Tokens

Open the API Tokens section to issue OAuth credentials for external applications. Create a token, give it a descriptive name so its purpose is clear later, and confirm the authorization statement. After creation, copy the client ID and client secret into your external tool. Treat the client secret like a password and never share it publicly.

Working with LTI Tools

Open the LTI Tools section to register and manage Learning Tools Interoperability connections. Each registered tool is associated with a platform and a client ID and has its own status. Register the tools the account needs and verify a launch before depending on it in production.

Deactivating or removing an integration

When a connection is no longer needed, deactivate it to stop it from exchanging data, or remove it entirely. Removing credentials such as an API token immediately blocks access for any external application using them, so confirm before you remove anything that other systems depend on.

Reviewing Logs

Open the Logs section to review integration activity. Use it to confirm that a connection ran as expected, to see what changed, and to troubleshoot when a sync or launch does not behave as intended.

Conclusion

The Integrations Settings Overview is your single hub for connecting KnowledgeCity to the outside world. By grouping Content Providers, Integration Platforms, LTI Tools, API Tokens, Web Hooks, and Logs on one page, it lets you add, enable, deactivate, and remove integrations with a clear view of each connection's status, and rely on the logs to keep every change traceable.
